The Translator's Blog That Never Was... Monetized
On June 9th, 2020, l published the first issue of Translators & Interpreters Links, a blog sent by email. Later renamed Translation & Interpreters Careers, it now has a worldwide circulation of 1,200.
I avoid using the word “readers” because as is true of all things email, only approximately 25% of recipients open and read it. Less than 10% of them click on a link. Only 10 people have ever become premium subscribers.
Despite of all the promotional emails we receive and webinars, paid ads, pod casts, and videos telling us how easy it is to monetize a blog, to have passive income from it, do not believe it. The authors of such “success” stories may be in an industry whose members can afford to buy the affiliate products sold on their blogs.
They tell us how great a website or blog is doing because of this or that tool, which if you notice, is underlined in blue and links to an affiliate who pays the writer $ every time you click or buy the product.
Sorry to disappoint those who bought into the “Write a Blog and Grow Rich” idea. Writing a blog just to make money would be like having sex to make money.
I write a blog to share ideas, information, trends, warnings, work opportunities, humor, self-care tips, and more, as a professional service, not a “hustle.” I have collected a year’s worth of my blog articles for you to read. Enjoy!
