The Children, a poem in ten languages

$20+

The Children, a poem in 12 languages, by Dr. José León Varela is published in honor of all children who have been murdered by prehistoric deranged tribal minds or who have died as “collateral damage” at the sights of obedient armed forces anywhere on this planet we call Mother Earth. The poem begins:

Slaughtered, beheaded, dismembered,

Too young to be owned by a religion,

Too soft to be hardened by a party,

Their only sin to be born and live there,

There, where merciless blind bullets fly,

There, where missiles and bombs fall,

Their innocent laughter quieted forever,

Their curious questions unanswered.

The original poem, written in English and the Spanish translation are both by Dr. Varela. The versions in Arabic, French, Czech, German, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian are drafts written with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

If you translate into any of these languages, or any other, and wish to join in this project, please send us your version. It will be included in future editions.

The plan is to offer this chapbook on a “pay what you want” basis on our Gumroad platform page.

Because we are acquainted with the good work The Nest, a non-profit organization, does aiding the children of recently arrived refugees and asylum seekers from the Middle East, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Africa, etc., with car seats, food, diapers, and other needs, 100% of any income from sales of this project goes to The Nest, https://www.thenestlexington.org/.
